Ophelia Settle Egypt is a pioneering social work and intellectual activism figure whose groundbreaking contributions have left an indelible mark on the field. This article delves into the multifaceted journey of Egypt, tracing her early influences, educational background, and the significant milestones of her career. As one of the first African American women to earn a degree in social work, Egypt navigated and challenged the systemic barriers of her time, advocating for marginalized communities and advancing the discourse on mental health, civil rights, and community development. In capturing the essence of Egypt’s legacy, this intellectual biography commemorates her contributions but also underscores the ongoing relevance of her work in today’s socio-political landscape.
